The Contraflow Project (TCP) is concluding over fourteen years of research, documenting the Hurricane Katrina response. I, like a billion or so others, watched the nonstop news coverage coming out of the Gulf Coast. The surreal scenes moved me to join the Katrina relief efforts, which led me to interviewing survivors returning home in 2005-2006; which lead to me to launch an independent research project, focusing on the events of the first two weeks of Katrina from the responders points of view.

On July 7, 2006, I interviewed then Delta Airlines executives and pilots Joe Kolshak and Mike Quiello. I only contacted Delta to get the answer to one last question pertaining to Operation Air Care so I could conclude my initial research focus on Katrina community responders from the New Orleans 7th Ward. But instead, the Kolshak-Quiello interview turned out to be the beginning days of The Contraflow Project expanding my focus to include the Katrina responders from across the country.

The goal is to transform TCP’s Katrina response research findings into a print, audio and ebook heptalogy, with the working title CONTRAFLOW: A Katrina Heptalogy. A Katrina book series void of blame, political agendas, demographic stereotyping, race-carding and media sensationalism; rather, what went right, and/or what really happened during those fateful two weeks. With the research project nearing completion, raising funds to move forward is our number one priority.

In April of 2009, Contraflow Inc. the fiscal sponsor to The Contraflow Project, was granted 501c3 designation. Since 2005, more than 95% of our support has come from seven or so patrons who we appreciate very much. Even though we did not know where the research would take us, or how long it would take us, our research patrons stayed with us throughout this amazing and incredible journey. I also thank the scores of in-kind supporters as well from coast to coast.

TCP is moving into a new phase that calls for new sources of funding to cover anticipated expenses, which include editing, indexing, graphic artists, graphic artists, multi-media presentation equipment, IT services, travel, software, premium social media accounts, apps, stationery, printing fees, image consulting, filing fees and legal consultation.

Today, I am asking for your help. As a supporter you can help provide TCP with the tools needed to get a long overdue, heroic and uplifting epic story of Katrina out to the public; which consequently will help fund a TCP documentary, responders appreciation event and rehab-housing projects. You can monitor our progress by following us on the following social media profiles: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Picasa.
